Wimax is coming to i29.
This spring i29 will upgrade
its wireless Internet equipment to offer WiMAX service. WiMAX is
a new standard in wireless Internet. When the WiFi standard
was adopted for in-home wireless networks a few years ago many low-cost
devices and services followed. WiMAX brings the same promise for
entire communities as it is being deployed nationwide. i29 is
proud to bring this exciting new service to the Fargo-Moorhead area.
What's different?
WiMAX will allow i29 to offer higher speed services to our existing and new customers. These
higher speed service plans are still being determined, so please check back to this page for
updates.
The software in the existing modems will be updated automatically to work on the WiMAX standard,
making the upgrade seamless for our existing users.
The standard should also increase quality of service, addressing signal and connection issues.
More mobility and devices
The Internet is quickly becoming mobile. New exciting phone-like devices, netbooks, and tablets
are being manufactured that will work on any WiMAX service in the country.
These devices will be available for purchase at stores or online, allowing customers to buy devices vs.
leasing them as part of the service. Some examples of WiMAX devices already on the market:

When is it coming?

Who's behind Wimax
Intel, Sprint, and even Google have invested in WiMAX technology.
